Is HIFU for fibroids covered by public or private insurance in Turkey?
There is no single answer that holds for everyone. Public (SGK) reimbursement depends on the current reimbursement schedule and on the contract status of the institution where treatment is given; for private insurance, the policy’s clauses on non-surgical interventions and outpatient treatment, and any pre-authorisation requirement, decide. This page makes no coverage promise: the right route is to apply to your payer with the written quote issued after the eligibility assessment.
Why we do not write a plain "yes/no"
Reimbursement rules change over time, differ between payers, and the same policy name can carry different benefits. A coverage sentence written here today could be wrong six months from now, and a patient who plans on it would be harmed. So we explain how coverage is found out, not what it is.
Steps to confirm
- 01
Eligibility assessment
First it is settled whether HIFU suits your fibroid; if not, the reimbursement question never arises.
- 02
Written quote and report
The centre issues a document with the procedure name, code, planned scope and the physician’s report.
- 03
Application to the payer
With this document you request pre-authorisation or a coverage letter from your insurer; for SGK, the institution’s contract status is asked.
- 04
Keep the written answer
Do not rely on verbal information; have coverage and co-payment in writing.
What makes up the cost
- Pre-assessment: ultrasound and, where needed, MRI.
- Procedure: device use, physician and team, treatment room.
- Treatment day: sedation/analgesia, observation time.
- Follow-up: control imaging (usually at 3, 6 and 12 months).
Insurance coverage for focused ultrasound treatments varies markedly by country and payer; coverage status should be verified before the treatment decision.
